The Zoological Society of East Anglia has announced an exciting new partnership with East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

Running from 21st June to 27th June, Children’s Hospice Week is the only week in the year dedicated to raising awareness and funds for children’s hospice and palliative care services across the UK, and the seriously ill children and young people they support.

To mark the start of this long-term partnership ZSEA will be running a competition to design a poster to promote their new pizza restaurant “Parkside Pizza” at Banham Zoo. The winner will be invited to the restaurant’s launch evening in the autumn alongside some of the EACH team. 7.5% of ticket sales on the 27 and 28 June from both Banham Zoo and Africa Alive will also be donated to EACH.

More long term, ZSEA will be working in partnership with EACH to deliver a range of Summer activities and courses to support the families and staff of EACH.

Claudia Roberts, CEO of ZSEA, said: “EACH is an amazing charity and I am delighted about the future of our partnership with them. I strongly believe that ZSEA can bring huge benefits to both the families and children supported by EACH, as well as the wonderful hardworking staff who work for them.

“From helping the children in their care with special fun and happy events at our zoos or by taking the zoo to them through our outreach educational licence or by developing ‘Peace through Nature’ courses for parents and siblings, I am confident we will be able to make a significant difference to all those involved with EACH over the coming years with a host of fun, happy and educational initiatives.

Banham Zoo and Africa Alive, run by ZSEA, are the perfect happy and fun places for the young people supported by EACH to come connect and boost their wellbeing; not just with wildlife and nature but with their families. The last year has been a challenge for all charities, but with the help of DEFRA’s lifeline Zoo Animal Fund we are immensely grateful we are now able to be in position to start rebuilding and able to give back to others in our community. It is a pleasure and honour to be in partnership with EACH”.

Caring for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk and supporting their families, EACH takes a family centred approach to support. Their services include specialist nursing care, symptom management nursing, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies, counselling and volunteer services in the family home; all meeting the individual needs of the child, young person and whole family.

Caroline Allen, Corporate Fundraiser “We’re delighted to be launching this exciting partnership with ZSEA during Children’s Hospice Week. The society’s plans include not only raising money and awareness, but also providing some direct benefits to our staff and the families we support, and we can’t wait for things to get going.”
