Eleven fire engines sent to blaze on Beccles industrial estate

Fire crews from across Suffolk were mobilised to deal with a large building fire on an industrial estate in Beccles.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service were called at 10.24pm on Tuesday 18th August to the blaze at VC Cooke Ltd on the Ellough Industrial Estate.

On arrival crews were faced with a well-developed fire and required further resources to deal with the incident.

Eleven appliances from Leiston, Wrentham, Halesworth, Bungay, Beccles, North Lowestoft, South Lowestoft and Haverhill were sent to the incident within an hour of the fire starting with seven on scene at one time during the height of the blaze.

North Lowestoft fire station confirmed on Twitter that they had been mobilised at 10.50pm to assist.

Four fire appliances are still on scene with crews damping down, monitoring fire spread and investigating the cause.

The building involved in the fire has been confirmed as a barn that contained machinery and approximately 6 tonnes of domestic waste.

The Environment Agency have been informed of this incident.
