Man with axe arrested following incident at bakery

Police arrested a man in Beccles last night for possession of an offensive weapon after being seen with an axe.

It comes after man was seen riding a horse around the St Andrew’s Road area of the town at around 8pm yesterday, Tuesday 18th August.

He made his way into a nearby park and a member of the public saw a suspected axe hidden in the saddle.

A 28 year old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and also on suspicion of public order following an earlier incident at a bakery on New Market in the town where he was being verbally abusive to staff and members of the public.

He has been taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning where he currently remains.
