Halesworth has made the decision not to hold the annual Christmas light switch on event in the town this year.
Due to uncertainty surrounding regulations regarding public gatherings and whether these might change later in the year, organisers have decided to cancel.
Halesworth Event Management (HEM), who organise the event, said: “We feel it would be irresponsible to hold such an event and encourage a large gathering of people which could lead to transmission of the virus.
“Also, the group has been unable to meet during lockdown and time is fast running out to organise an event which may well have to be cancelled.
“Due to lockdown restrictions we have been unable to hold any fundraising events this year.”
However, funds are available to put up the Christmas tree and lights around the Thoroughfare and Market Place as normal.
HEM added: “We hope by putting up the trees and lights in mid-November that this will help bring some festive cheer to everyone as people enjoy the range of shops and eateries in Halesworth in the run up to Christmas at the end of a very different and difficult year.”
