Appeal after stolen moped is involved in collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a stolen motorcycle was involved in a road traffic collision in Lowestoft. 

It was reported that sometime between 8.00am and 12.30pm yesterday, Tuesday 15th June, a red Honda moped, registration mark AU67 PXB, was stolen from a driveway on Beccles Road in Lowestoft.

At approximately 4.50pm, the moped was located being ridden by two boys in the Stradbroke Road area of town. The vehicle failed to stop for police and drove off. Officers did not pursue the vehicle.

A short time later, at 4.54pm, police received reports of a road traffic collision on Tom Crisp Way, involving the stolen moped and a Renault Megane. One of the riders of the moped fled the scene. 

The other rider of the moped, a teenage boy, sustained a broken leg as a result of the collision and was taken to hospital for treatment. The driver of the car was not injured. 

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the theft and the road traffic collision.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anybody with any information regarding the theft of the vehicle to contact police. Also, anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was driving in the area at the relevant time and has dash-cam footage are asked to contact Lowestoft Police, quoting reference 31755/21
