Car badly damaged after crashing into bridge

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after the car he was driving crashed into a bridge in Lakenheath.

Emergency services, including three fire crews, were mobilised to the incident on Station Road, near to the junction with Wangford Road, just after 4pm to reports that a car had crashed into the bridge.

Two men were taken to hospital with head injuries having been treated at the roadside by volunteers from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service.

Firefighters worked to make the scene safe using absorbent sheets on the leaking fuel.

The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

There were major delays on the roads around the area for some time however the road has now reopened and traffic is flowing normally.
