Moulton Road in Newmarket has been closed after a man was found with unexplained head injuries this morning.

The road is expected to remain closed for most of the morning after the incident, which took place between 3.00am and 3.10am today, Sunday 5th September.

The victim, a 24 year old male, was found in the road with serious injuries including a suspected fractured jaw and eye socket. He is currently in a stable condition at Addenbrookes hospital.

Police subsequently closed a short section of the road in order to set up a crime scene.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said the injuries were serious and could have been caused by an assault, or a fall from a height.

The investigation is currently centred around what caused the injuries and the circumstances in which the man sustained them.

Police are keen to speak with anyone that might have been in Moulton Road around 3am, saw a man with head and face injuries walking around. Officers are also keen to hear form anyone who heard anything suspicious or they may have CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 quoting reference: 37/48950/21
